Intel's core i9, an engineering sample, was tested by Polish PCLab. The sample contains 6-cores carrying 12mb of level 3's. The new processor is part of Intel's roadmap to building their next line of multi-core, energy efficient processors.
The processor (codenamed Gulftown) was tested on 3 different boards. They did not have that much problems getting the processor to run since it's using the LGA 1366 socket. The testers had a bit of a problem particularly memory performance issues.
As for the results, since we are talking of 2 extra HT cores, the planned processor is able to perform as expected. The new line of processors appear under the 32nm process and is set to be released by Q2 2010.
