Linux OS And PC Gaming

PC Games have been around for more than a decade and Microsoft has, since then, occupied the top seat for most of that time. For those who use the open-source OS Linux, is it capable (now) of running those Windows-based games?
Giving a quick round up of software products, we have: Wine, Cedega and Crossover Games. These distributions/software packages allow Windows-based programs to run on Linux machines.
But coming from Anandtech's article, is Linux ready for PC Gaming? And the given answer was a yes and a no.
Yes because if you or some other user opts to play a game that has been around for some time and is popular, then chances are that the game would be or is already supported on the Wine software platform. No for the sole reason that newer games still require someone or the Wine software itself to be configured to allow the said games to run as smooth and as problem-free as possible on the Linux system.
Overall, most older games run properly on 1 or 2 of the said software programs. Wine is open-sourced software and is free to download and use. While Cedega and Crossover Games are closed-sourced projects, some games run better on these 2.
